Following the announcement that all American Football-related activity in the United Kingdom is to be suspended in the face of the unprecedented coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Glasgow Tigers have released the following statement:
“We always look to act in the best interests of our players, coaches and volunteers and we support today’s announcement from the British American Football Association. Faced with such an unprecedented health situation, steps such as this are unavoidable and we will continue to work closely with the league and healthcare professionals.
“As a team, we have already implemented measures such as no sharing of water bottles at practice, and have encouraged players not to attend any team sessions if they exhibit any of the symptoms while continuing to follow hand hygiene and cough/sneeze etiquette guidelines
“While none of our players, coaches and volunteers have experienced COVID-19 coronavirus symptoms to date, the Tigers will continue to review the measures in place to deal with and respond to such an incident. Should anyone experience symptoms, they should follow NHS advice and self-isolate in the first instance.
“We will keep our team and the wider American Football community in Scotland the UK updated as the situation develops and will share any news regarding this season as we have it.”
