Glasgow Tigers kick off their season this Sunday against one of the division’s toughest opponents, the Northumberland Vikings.
The Tigers travel to Druid Park in Newcastle-upon-Tyne with a new-look coaching staff and a much-changed roster compared to the team that struggled against the same team last year as the Vikings charged to an impressive undefeated regular season record and a North Division finals appearance.
Despite falling against the Leicester Falcons at the last stage of their Premiership promotion push, the Vikings are still viewed as one of the teams to beat in the NFC1 Division.
A strong start

They opened their season with a 24-0 win over their local rivals, the Gateshead Senators, and will hope to keep the momentum going for their home opener in Week 2.
Drawing from links with one of the country’s foremost University programmes in nearby neighbours Durham – 2017/18 BUCS champions – the Vikings have been fortunate to benefit from a steady stream of overseas talent to compliment their local players.
Recent discussion over foreign national visas in the British American Football League posed a threat to Northumberland’s talent pipeline but their Week 1 success seems to have silenced those fears.
Ones to Watch
Wide Receiver Dion Feather, a former Stirling Clansman at University level, took the team’s MVP award in their opening game and will be a player for the Tigers’ defence to play close attention to as they look to start the season off with a bang.
Josh Tucker at Linebacker – one of the team’s former Durham Saints University players – and Oliver Monaghan on offence were also highlighted by the team out of the season opener.
